Margaret Amey

Deputy Head of School
CEd., DipLangEd., DMS, Cert.CPD,

Margaret has been teaching for 25 years, having had some experience of life outside of 'school' before settling on her career. She has enjoyed a variety of jobs including running an employment agency, working in accounts in various companies and, for a period as restaurant hostess in a hotel.

Margaret moved from Southampton to St Mary's School in 1995 to take up the post of Lower School Co-ordinator. She trained in special education and has worked primarily in special schools. For fourteen years she worked in nursery and diagnostic nursery provision with extended periods in a school for children with severe learning difficulties, teaching children aged 2-19 years.

She Initially trained as an Art teacher, alongside training to work with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. She is the Art Curriculum Co-ordinator in school.

Margaret's interests in working with challenging behaviour lead to her working with the more difficult pupils at her previous school and implementing behaviour programmes and protocols. This involved working with both staff and children at school and at home, generalising skills and understanding across the child's day.

Margaret has always written stories for children.  These have included books specifically aimed at an individual child's needs, such as 'The Girl Who Dug Holes' and 'You're Not Listening To Me', as well as class readers such as 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'The Car Story Books'.
