Joanna Whiteman

Jo graduated with a degree from Sussex University in 1981. Her subject specialism is Food Technology and she spent her first years in teaching at the Grove School in St Leonards-on-Sea, where Jo taught the full secondary age range, including 6th Form.

Jo has always been interested in Special Education and in 1985 she applied for the part time post of Food Technology teacher at St Mary's School.

As well as Food Technology she has taught and been involved in the development of Personal, Social and Health Education, particularly in the Upper School.

As Upper School Co-ordinator Jo developed the curriculum and became particularly involved in the management of the older pupils. This role developed into a wider management role as Assistant Head.

Jo was appointed Head of School from the beginning of the summer term 2003.
