Deryck is married to Avril and has a grown up son, Daniel. Deryck began working life as an Apprentice Carpenter and Joiner in Eastbourne.

He has worked in all aspects of the construction industry, maintenance, housing, shop fitting and large commercial and municipal projects. He progressed from Trades Foreman to Site Manager being ultimately responsible for the management of projects worth several million pounds.

Deryck came to St Mary’s in 1993 with a local contractor to build the school hall, Craft Design and Technology room and Art Therapy building and stayed on.

His responsibilities include: -

*	Health and Safety – He is the Chief Executive’s agent for the day-to-day management of Health and Safety in conjunction with Heads of Department’s and departmental meetings.
*	Building Maintenance – Deryck oversees all aspects of building maintenance.
*	New Building Works – This involves sending enquiries to contractors to provide tenders, and acting as Clerk of the Works.
*	Grounds - He oversees the maintenance of the grounds and gardens.
*	Housekeeping – Organising the cleaning of the school properties, with the Domestic Housekeeper. This includes the ‘in house’ laundry.
*	Furniture – He holds the school furniture budget and is responsible for the upkeep of all furniture.
*	Plant and Machinery – Deryck is responsible for all of the school’s equipment and arranges maintenance contracts.
