Jane Bakewell

Jane qualified as a Registered General Nurse from the Hastings School of Nursing in 1987. Jane then married and moved to the Dartford area where she worked as a staff nurse at what was then Joyce Green Hospital, until the birth of her first son.  Jane returned to nursing after a short career break and a second son in 1990.

Jane resumed her medical career as a practice nurse at a local doctor’s surgery. Here she learnt a vast amount, from dealing first hand with a whole range of medical issues, as well as managing out patient clinics for local consultants at the surgery.

In 1994, Jane and her family moved to Bexhill where she gained employment as a practice nurse at a doctor’s surgery in Hastings. During this time she gained a diploma in asthma care and successfully implemented clinics for asthma and diabetic care at the surgery.

In need of new challenges, Jane joined St Mary’s in September 1999 as the Senior Nurse. Since that time Jane has led the Nursing Team through exciting and challenging times of change now oversees the medical and health care needs of all the pupils and students within the Trust.

Jane enjoys cooking for family and friends and tries to burn off excess calories by running and swimming regularly in the Trust pool.  Jane's other past times include walking her dogs, reading, gardening and the occasional horse ride.
