Sue Ensor

Sue originally qualified in Social Work in 1976 and all her subsequent experience was working in children and families teams in Social Services Departments working for various local authorities.

In addition Sue has worked as a Cruse Counsellor and supervisor, as well as being involved in her local church.

Sue has ensured that her social work training is regularly updated and has completed her PQSW Award and PQCCA at Sussex University. From time to time Sue has social work students on short placements. She is also able to access local training offered to East Sussex staff through the Local Safeguarding Children Board arrangements. Sue is a Registered Social Worker with General Social Care Council.

Sue has worked at St Mary's since 1993 and developed the role of social worker in various ways. She has developed Safeguarding and Child Protection training for staff and is responsible for raising the profile of Safeguarding and Child Protection within the Trust. She works with all staff at the Trust in this role and is the designated person for Child Protection and Safeguarding at the Trust. This role is also supported by designated Governors.

Sue is also the designated Independent Person for the children and students at the Trust and has developed the Children's Complaints system to try and make it more accessible to the children. This has been done in collaboration with the Speech and Language Therapists at the Trust.

Sue works closely with all staff at the Trust, especially being involved in the support of emotional and psychological needs of the children and students.

Sue also runs Parent Focus days to provide a social gathering for parents, usually on a specific topic of interest. She is also available to speak with parents about any concerns they may have about their child or accessing local services in their home area.

Sue also offers support and information about Benefits, and works closely with the Transition Adviser regarding post 19 provision.

Sue offers direct support to parents and students regarding access to care assessments and coordinating complex plans with other agencies.

Sue also supports children and students' spiritual development by facilitating relevant religious instruction such as Confirmation classes where required.
